San Clemente Island Goat Seed Saving Fundraiser

  • Brewery Nonic 621 4th Street West Menomonie, WI, 54751 United States (map)

Join us for this goat-tastic event. You can learn more about the San Clemente Island Goat Seed Saving Fundraiser HERE. The summary is to raise enough money to collect, freeze, and store genetics from this critically endangered breed, keeping these valuable genetics safe for current and future generations to use.

This event will be held at Brewery Nonic in Menomonie, WI. I will bring some of my San Clemente Island goats to this event for people to meet, take pictures with, and learn more. With a very special guest speaker Em Loerzel, who is the founder of the nonprofit called Humble Horse. Em is dedicated to the preservation, education, and reconnection of the Ojibwe Pony. For indigenous people, by indigenous people. The Ojibwe Pony is another critically endangered breed, and Em will tell her story about these ponies, as well as the importance they ponies and other endangered livestock breeds play in our world.

The second very special guest speaker will be Aaron Bye. He and his family run Bramblewood Farm in Stillwater, MN. Aaron bought his first San Clemente Island goats from EB Ranch Farmstead and has become a very involved advocate. Paving the way for the SCI goat breed to be shown in his local 4-H chapter, creating a heritage breed category.

I hope that people can come away from this event with a better understanding of the importance of not only preserving but growing critically endangered livestock and poultry breeds. These breeds hold unique and important stories as well as genetic diversity. Even if you can’t raise your goats, you can still help secure the future of this breed financially, by word of mouth, or just by being involved on some level.

Bring your family, bring your phones to take pictures, and let me know if you are interested in helping to volunteer at this event. I might be looking for people to be goat ambassadors or co-organizers.
