That's right, welcome George and Mandi the new owners of the goat milk soap business. They are also owners of Sunrise Wild Haven Farm in North Branch, Minnesota. Here is a little bit about Mandi, George, and their farm Sunrise Wild Haven farm.
The future of farming is not CAFOs and monoculture. The future is a return to many small, diversified farms working with heritage livestock and plants in harmony with nature. Wild Haven Farm is a teaching and experimental farm. We leverage our combined expertise in business, technology, science, coaching, and education to empower emergent small farmers like ourselves to build a new generation of sustainable farming. We define “farmer” very loosely. If you have a garden, if you keep a few chickens, if you have a pollinator habitat, you are a homesteader (aka farmer) who can make a difference!
Mandi Sawyer
Gamekeeper and Acupuncturist
I’m allergic to almost everything here on the farm but still loving it all. I lettered in home economics in high school and spend my spare time reading murder mysteries, crafting, and baking gluten free delights. I hold an undergrad in human biology (BS – valedictorian) and a master’s in Traditional Chinese Medicine (MCM – valedictorian), I’m a board certified herbalist (Dipl. O.M. (NCCAOM)®), and licensed to practice acupuncture in MN (L.Ac.). I’m also a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC (ALPP)).
My practice, Root to Branch Wellness, provides holistic care including acupuncture, herbal prescriptions, cupping, gua sha, lactation counseling, and more.
Gentleman Farmer
I’m rather hard to pin down. My interests range from high tech to hiking and from craft cocktails in Paris and New York to vintage tractors and animal husbandry. Wild Haven Farm is my attempt to find a place to explore all of my eclectic passions. I’m currently working on my doctorate in education (Ed.D.) and working toward certification in Narrative Coaching.
As with most farmers, I work “off farm.” Since before the turn of the century I have been a leader in the learning and development (L&D) field where I am a master trainer, a leadership coach, and an L&D consultant. I’m an AWS Authorized Instructor (AAI) an helped develop that instructor authorization program during my time with AWS. I also recently co-authored the AWS Certified SysOps Administrator Study Guide with Sybex (Wiley) Publishing.
